Spanish Constitutional Court deems complaint regarding the "Grandchildren Law" premature
Legal experts at the Spanish Constitutional Court have concluded that it is still too early to examine the incoming objections regarding the widely resonant "Grandchildren Law" (Ley de Nietos). The court's internal opinion recommended that the complaint filed by the Ombudsman not be accepted for proceedings.
According to experts, since the legal mechanisms related to the law's application have not yet been fully formed, the appropriate time to appeal to the court has not yet arrived. This position indicates that additional time is needed for a detailed analysis of the law's provisions and its consequences.
Recall that the "Grandchildren Law" aims to simplify the acquisition of citizenship for individuals who do not hold Spanish citizenship but have Spanish roots. This legislative act has been met with great interest, particularly by people of Spanish descent living abroad.
This approach by the Constitutional Court may temporarily dampen legal disputes. The judicial instance believes that in order to make a definitive decision on the law's constitutionality, it is necessary to observe the process of its practical application.
