Hungary greenlights Ukrainian grain transit: A new stage in relations between Budapest and Kyiv

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has agreed to allow Ukrainian cargo to pass through the country via sealed rail cars. This step is seen as a significant breakthrough for the revival of cooperative relations between the two states following long-standing disagreements.

The Ukrainian government has submitted new proposals regarding grain transit to neighboring countries, including Hungary. This positive response from Budapest opens up new perspectives in terms of diversifying export routes.

Political commentators believe that this reached agreement could contribute to easing the years-long tension observed between Hungary and Ukraine. The parties are demonstrating their interest in continuing dialogue to restore economic and logistical ties.

Nevertheless, experts maintain a cautious stance regarding the realization of high-level official visits. In particular, a visit by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to Budapest is not expected in the near future.

It should be noted that this agreement reached regarding the grain corridor is of great importance for regional security and the resilience of the food supply chain.
