Violence Against Healthcare Workers in Spain Rises: Over 18,500 Attacks Recorded in 2025

Violence against healthcare workers in Spain - Recent reports from the Spanish Ministry of Health indicate a worrying increase in violence against professionals working in the country's National Health System (SNS). In 2025, over 18,500 attacks against medical personnel were recorded, making this one of the main challenges facing the sector.

The majority of the 18,563 recorded attacks, more precisely over 50%, occurred in primary healthcare facilities. This situation reveals that family doctors, nurses, and other essential medical personnel face a greater risk in their daily activities. As these centers are considered the first point of contact with patients, the potential for tension and conflict is higher there.

Unfortunately, violence against healthcare workers remains a persistent problem. This is not limited to physical injuries but also seriously negatively impacts the psychological well-being and overall working conditions of medical personnel. Such incidents lower staff motivation, increase stress levels, and can even lead to them leaving the profession.

These attacks can lead to a deterioration in the quality of healthcare services, as employees struggle to fully perform their duties due to safety concerns. This situation can also reduce public trust in the healthcare system and hinder patients from receiving necessary medical assistance.

Given the seriousness of the issue, various organizations are implementing legal training and preventive measures aimed at strengthening the protection of healthcare workers. The main goal is to prevent such incidents, create a safer working environment for employees, and ensure the sustainability of the healthcare system.
