Day 101 in the IMM trial: Imamoglu delivered a harsh speech before the judge
The trial of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu has reached its 101st day. During the session where the defense concluded its arguments, Imamoglu made very sharp and striking statements in the courtroom.

Addressing Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during his speech, Ekrem Imamoglu stated that imprisoning political rivals would not bring any legitimacy to the government. Severely criticizing the ruling power's policy, he said, "You cannot gain legitimacy by keeping your rivals imprisoned in Edirne and Silivri."
Defending himself in court, the IMM mayor once again emphasized that the charges brought against him are entirely politically motivated. Demonstrating how resolute he is in his position, Imamoglu used the words, "There are no criminals in this courtroom, and I will not take a single step back."
Imamoglu's messages regarding the Independence March (Istiklal Marshi) in his defense speech sparked widespread resonance in the public. Following the defense speeches, which concluded on the fourth day of the proceedings, expectations regarding the court's final verdict and acquittal are growing.
Tensions surrounding the trial remain high around the courthouse and on social media platforms. Legal experts and political commentators note that the verdict to be rendered will play a decisive role in Turkey's political future.
