Large-scale protests in France: Luxury stores looted, hundreds detained
Protests that began in France against rising prices and the weakening purchasing power of the population have spiraled out of control, leading to mass looting. Demonstrators taking to the streets in various cities across the country have violated public order and caused severe destruction.
During the riots in major cities such as Paris, Lyon, Marseille, and Lille, stores of world-famous brands were targeted. Gangs smashing the windows of prestigious companies such as Louis Vuitton, Hugo Boss, Hermès, and Apple broke inside and seized valuable goods.
Law enforcement agencies have resorted to large-scale measures to quell the nationwide unrest. According to official reports, hundreds of people have been detained in connection with looting and breaches of public order.
Government officials have further tightened security measures in order to ease the tension. Although the number of police patrols has been increased in the central parts of the cities, the situation is reported to still be critical.
Although the main demand of the protesters is the solution of economic problems, the increase in acts of violence is causing serious concern in society. Government representatives have called on citizens to exercise restraint and stated that those committing illegal acts will be held accountable.
