Andy Burnham: Increase in the number of NEET youth could lead to an economic crisis

Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham has issued a serious warning regarding the rising number of young people in the country who are not in education, employment, or training (NEET). He described the current situation as both an economic disaster and a moral failure.

According to Burnham, the failure to integrate young people into the labor market portends severe consequences for the state economy in the long term. He emphasized that the current socio-economic system is incapable of efficiently utilizing the potential of these youth.

The report notes that young people falling into the trap of unemployment and lack of education limits their future career prospects and further deepens inequality in society. This also means an increase in the burden of social benefits on the state budget.

The mayor has called on the government and local executive authorities to invest more in youth employment programs and skills development. According to him, it is impossible to achieve economic stability without fundamentally solving this problem.

Experts also share Burnham's concern, highlighting the importance of bridging the gap between the education system and the labor market. The integration of youth as full-fledged members of society must be a strategic priority for the state.
