Call on Azerbaijan from an international body: Hijab ban is assessed as discrimination

International human rights defenders have harshly criticized the restrictions imposed on female students wearing hijabs in educational institutions in Azerbaijan. The published report emphasizes that preventing students from entering school due to their religious attire is a serious violation of fundamental human rights, particularly the right to education.

Experts state that the existence of such bans in schools deepens social discontent in society and leads to the exclusion of students from the educational process. The international organization has invited the Azerbaijani leadership to align its domestic legislative framework with international obligations and to respect freedom of religion and belief.

The document notes that discrimination based on religious attire in educational institutions contradicts the principles of international conventions. Representatives of the organization have called on official Baku to urgently eliminate administrative barriers regarding hijabs in schools and to ensure equal access to education for students.

No official position has been stated yet by state authorities regarding the matter. Nevertheless, human rights defenders point out that this problem has been pressing for a long time and is awaiting a resolution.
