Berlin prepares to remove 160,000 apartments from the market economy
Political forces in Germany's capital, Berlin, are preparing to take quite radical measures to overcome the housing crisis. Within the framework of negotiations between the Social Democratic Party (SPD), the Greens, and the Left Party, it is planned to remove 160,000 apartments from market economy principles and place them under state control.

Presented by Elif Eralp, this new "comprehensive policy" course aims to prevent the rapid increase of rents in the city and solve the problem of housing shortages. The political block considers this step necessary for the establishment of social justice.
According to the prepared plan, starting from 2029, the process of socializing or nationalizing residential areas owned by large housing corporations is planned to begin. This initiative could lead to fundamental changes in the city's housing market.
In the joint statement of the political parties, the slogan "more unity, more Berlin" was brought to the forefront. Coalition members state that these steps will raise the standard of living in the city and further strengthen citizens' housing security.
However, the plan in question has been met with certain concerns in economic circles. Experts have begun to discuss what impacts the removal of apartments from the market economy will have on the investment environment and the city's future development.
