Ramiz Mehdiyev's Family Bank Transformed into an NBCO: Azerbaijan's Banking Sector Shrinks

Azerbaijan's banking sector shrinks Ramiz - Azerbaijan's banking sector shrinks, Ramiz - A significant change has occurred in Azerbaijan's financial system. The Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) has issued a decision to terminate the banking activities of "Bank BTB" OJSC. As a result of this decision, "Bank BTB" will lose its bank status and be transformed into a non-bank credit organization (NBCO).

This decision strengthens the trend of decreasing number of banks in the country. The transformation of "Bank BTB" into an NBCO means that the institution will primarily offer credit services to small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as individuals, but will not have the authority to accept deposits or conduct other banking operations.

"Bank BTB" OJSC was previously known as a financial institution associated with the family of Ramiz Mehdiyev, the former head of the Presidential Administration. The bank's transition to NBCO status will significantly restrict its role and scope of activity in the financial market.

The Central Bank's decision is regarded as part of the ongoing consolidation process in the banking sector. In recent years, a series of structural reforms have been implemented in Azerbaijan's banking sector aimed at strengthening the stability of the financial system.

The transformation into an NBCO will also bring certain changes for the bank's customers. In particular, additional information is expected from the CBA regarding the situation of individuals who currently have deposits in the bank.

This step can also be seen as another step towards strengthening transparency and a healthy competitive environment in Azerbaijan's financial markets. The future development of the sector and the fate of other banks will remain in the focus of the financial community in the near future.
