New milestone for social networks in Australia: Algorithms may be abolished

A new era for social media in Australia: The abolition of algorithms is on the agenda

The Australian government has submitted a new bill to parliament aimed at ensuring the digital rights and safety of social media users. Dubbed the "Digital Duty of Care," this initiative gives users the ability to opt out of the algorithms applied by platforms.

The most significant part of the bill is granting users the right to completely disable algorithms. When this feature is activated, instead of AI-generated recommendation feeds, users will only be able to view posts from the accounts they follow in chronological order.

Experts assess this initiative as an important step taken to prevent information manipulation on social media and reduce the negative effects of addictive algorithms. Much like the experience in China, the regulation of the digital space is becoming a new global trend.

If the bill is passed by parliament, social media platforms will have to adapt their operating principles to Australian legislation. This is also considered a serious step toward tightening control over international tech giants.
