US Arming Iranian Kurds: A Dangerous Step for the Region

US arms supply to Iranian Kurds - Facing an Iranian regime weakened by successive pressures from the United States and Israel, Washington hopes to overthrow the Islamic Republic by relying on its old ally in the Middle East – the Kurds. This step is expected to lead to new tensions in the region.

The Kurdish minority, which constitutes 8-17 percent of Iran's total population, has long been subjected to persecution during the Islamic Republic era. Their ethnic and cultural rights have been repeatedly violated, leading to serious discontent among the Kurdish population.

Sources indicate that the Central Intelligence Agency's (CIA) plan to arm Kurdish insurgents within Iran carries significant risks. Such a step would not only destabilize Iran's internal stability, but could also lead to unforeseen consequences throughout the region.

Experts believe that these ill-considered steps, by affecting the interests of other regional actors, particularly Turkey and Iraq, could lead to a large-scale conflict. The Kurdish issue is one of the most sensitive points in regional geopolitics.

Although this US strategy aims to weaken the Iranian regime, in the long term, it could lead to greater instability and humanitarian crises. Increased military tension in the region could intensify refugee flows and the threat of terrorism.

It is imperative for Washington to thoroughly assess regional dynamics and potential consequences before taking such dangerous steps. Otherwise, the insurgency plan that would emerge from arming Iranian Kurds could bring more harm than expected benefit.
