65-year-old legendary passenger ship reached its final destination: It will be dismantled in Izmir
The end of the road has come for the "Funchal," one of the most famous passenger ships in maritime history. Boasting a rich 65-year history, this giant vessel is being brought to Turkey for recycling after sitting unused for a long time.

The ship has already arrived at its final stop, Izmir, where it will be broken down into parts. Having carried passengers across the world's various oceans for years and considered one of the most luxurious ships of its era, the "Funchal" was a nostalgic symbol for maritime enthusiasts.
The decision to dismantle the ship, which deteriorated due to long disuse and could not be restored, officially marked the end of its lifespan. Set to be disassembled by experts at shipbreaking yards in Izmir's Aliağa district, the vessel will be subjected to a recycling process.
The dismantling of such historical ships brings to the forefront both the technological changes in the maritime field and the issue of environmentally safe disposal of outdated vehicles. With the scrapping of the "Funchal," an era will officially become history.
